Highlights from the Global IVS Report 2023
1. Global Reach of IVS Projects
- Europe led the way in 2023, hosting 53% of the total IVS projects, while Africa and Asia organized most of the Very Short-Term Volunteering (VSTV) projects (43% each).
- Environmental projects were the most popular globally, accounting for 29% of all projects.
- Americas: 59% focused on environmental sustainability.
- Asia: 55% centered on educational initiatives.
- Europe: 37% of projects addressed environmental concerns.
2. Who Are the Volunteers?
- Europe dominated in volunteer numbers, hosting 76% of all participants, including 95% of long-term (LTV), 82% of medium-term (MTV), and 73% of short-term (STV) volunteers.
- Africa and Asia together hosted the majority of VSTV volunteers (55% and 30%, respectively).
- Age distribution: The majority of participants were aged 18–30, with a notable 53% of European volunteers under the age of 18.
- Gender representation: Male volunteers were the majority only in Africa (63%), while women formed the majority in other regions.
