Programme: Erasmus+ | Action Type: Strategic Partnerships for Youth
Countries Involved: Norway, Germany
Background
The project MOVE! – body expression against prejudices was developed to address the challenges young people face in today’s diverse societies. Many young people struggle with stereotypes, discrimination, and social barriers that limit their participation and growth. The project aimed to break down these prejudices through creativity, body expression, and intercultural dialogue, offering youth a chance to connect across borders.
Objectives
The project’s main goal was to empower young people to become active citizens who support democracy, tolerance, and peace. By using dance, theatre, and physical expression, participants learned empathy, cooperation, and mutual respect. The project also aimed to strengthen their confidence, improve their communication skills, and connect them with the European idea of diversity and inclusion. Raising awareness in a creative way was the central objective.
Implementation
The exchange brought together 21 young participants from Norway and Germany, aged 15 to 17, including many with fewer opportunities such as limited financial resources, migration backgrounds, or chronic illnesses. They were guided by experienced dance, theatre, and social pedagogues. The preparation phase included virtual meetings to plan activities and logistics. The exchange week in Norway combined learning, creativity, and reflection, while follow-up sessions supported evaluation and the planning of a return exchange in Leipzig in 2025.
Key Activities
During the exchange week, participants explored physical theatre, dance, and other forms of body expression. They discussed and reflected on stereotypes and prejudices, learned about cultural similarities and differences, and improved their English and intercultural communication. The program also encouraged teamwork, with participants managing shared responsibilities like group activities and daily tasks. Reflection sessions helped them track personal progress and build self-awareness.
Results
The project strengthened participants’ creative and social skills. They became more aware of the dangers of prejudice and stereotypes, and gained tools to address them. Many developed greater confidence, empathy, and responsibility. The project also provided valuable non-formal learning experiences, which supported both personal growth and future professional opportunities. The exchange created a safe space where all participants felt valued and supported.
Impact
The impact of the project went beyond the exchange week. It fostered friendships across borders and inspired participants to stay engaged in youth work and creative expression. Those with fewer opportunities especially benefited from the experience, gaining self-esteem and a sense of belonging. The project promoted inclusion, tolerance, and intercultural understanding, leaving long-lasting effects on participants’ personal lives and future paths. The memories, skills, and networks built during this project will continue to influence them in positive ways.
