Status: Completed | Duration: June 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025 | EU Grant: 31,478 EUR
Programme: Erasmus+ | Action Type: Mobility of Young People (Strategic Partnerships for Youth)
Countries Involved: Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal, Lithuania
Background
The project Creative Textile Hub was designed as a follow-up to the successful Creative Rural Hub implemented in 2023. It brings together young people from rural areas and those with fewer opportunities to promote inclusion, creativity, and environmental awareness. The idea came from young participants themselves, who wanted to explore textile and fashion as forms of self-expression and tools for social connection. The project also responds to the growing need for sustainable practices and intercultural understanding among youth in Europe.
Objectives
The main goal of the project was to support the social integration of young people through creativity and non-formal learning. Specific objectives included developing self-confidence, empathy, tolerance, and teamwork; promoting environmental awareness and mindful practices; and strengthening communication in foreign languages. The project aimed to empower youth to become more active in their local communities and inspire others by sharing their experiences and new competences gained through the exchange.
Implementation
Four partner organisations collaborated on this project:
- Na Slunci, z.s. (Czech Republic) – hosting organisation focused on non-formal education and eco-friendly practices.
- Fundacja Teatr Wschodni (Poland) – working with youth through theatre and art.
- Associação Juvenil de Peniche (Portugal) – experienced in youth participation and community activities.
- VšĮ Turiu idėją (Lithuania) – active in sustainability and upcycling education.
Each partner sent six young people aged 15–20 and two youth leaders to the exchange, with additional volunteers and facilitators supporting the programme. The project combined artistic workshops, intercultural learning, and environmental education.
Key Activities
Participants engaged in workshops on textile recycling, sewing, screen printing, pottery, and creative reuse of materials. Through improvisation and physical theatre, they prepared a final public performance and fashion show. Mindfulness sessions helped them build self-esteem and manage stress, while group activities developed communication and cooperation skills. The project encouraged using both English and non-verbal “art language” to express ideas and emotions.
Results and Impact
The Creative Textile Hub created a strong intercultural community and inspired young people to be more confident, open-minded, and environmentally conscious. Participants developed practical skills, improved their English, and gained new perspectives on diversity and sustainability. The project also strengthened partnerships between organisations and helped them develop innovative youth work practices tailored to rural areas. For many participants, this experience was life-changing—encouraging them to continue creative work, volunteering, or international cooperation.
