Background

The project Developing Intelligent Generations in Technological Aspect Literacy (DIGITAL) was created to respond to the growing importance of digital skills in modern life. With the rapid rise of IoT, AI, 5G, and Industry 4.0, young people need to be prepared for a future where 90% of jobs require digital competence. However, many European countries still face a lack of digital education, which limits opportunities and increases risks such as unsafe internet use and cyberbullying.

Objectives

The main purpose of the project was to raise awareness about the importance of digital literacy among young people. The objectives included:

  • Developing digital skills for professional and daily activities through non-formal learning.
  • Encouraging critical thinking and safe, ethical use of the internet.
  • Reaching wider audiences by running an online campaign about digital education and responsible online behavior.

Implementation

The youth exchange took place from 12–21 November 2020, involving 37 young people aged 18–26 from six countries. Twelve participants came from disadvantaged backgrounds. Activities were planned and facilitated by both the hosting and partner organizations, supported by an external facilitator who guided group dynamics, reflection, and learning processes.

Key Activities

Participants joined interactive workshops, team-building games, and intercultural evenings. The sessions covered online safety, fake news, data protection, ethical technology use, and digital democracy. They also explored innovative topics such as IoT, e-health, and smart cities. Each day included reflection sessions and energizers, while evenings encouraged cultural exchange. An online campaign further spread the project’s message to over 300 people.

Results

The project produced both tangible and intangible outcomes. Participants gained practical knowledge about safe internet use, digital identity, and cyberbullying prevention. They developed organizational, teamwork, and public-speaking skills, as well as the ability to create and manage digital content. Tangible results included online informational materials created during and after the mobility, shared widely through digital channels.

Impact

The project had a strong impact at local, national, and European levels. In Turkey, it raised awareness of cyberbullying and digital education among 100 young people and 5 managers at Beyoglu Youth Center. At European level, the online campaign reached about 700 people, spreading knowledge on digital literacy and promoting Erasmus+ opportunities. Participants also expanded their intercultural cooperation skills, built new networks, and prepared for future partnerships.
