Status: Completed
Duration: March 1, 2023 – October 31, 2024
EU Grant: €55,616
Programme: Erasmus+
Action Type: Mobility of Youth Workers
Countries Involved: Germany, Italy, Austria
Background
In many rural areas across Europe, young people are leaving in search of better opportunities in cities. This has led to depopulation, a lack of services, and fewer chances for youth to build a future in their own communities. Youth workers often face difficulties in creating inclusive and engaging spaces for rural youth, especially those with fewer opportunities.
Objectives
The project aimed to support youth workers by giving them tools to empower rural youth. It focused on helping young people reconnect with their local identity, nature, and traditions. Another key objective was to raise awareness about inequality in rural areas and promote inclusion, especially for marginalized youth.
Implementation
Two 10-day training courses were organized—one in Italy and one in Germany. Around 35 youth workers from three countries took part. The trainings used non-formal education methods to build skills, increase awareness, and promote active learning. Local communities were involved to offer real-life context and connection.
Key Activities
Participants explored topics like rural heritage, community building, and ecological sustainability. They engaged in group work, storytelling, practical workshops, and local visits. The training focused on empathy, creativity, and how to include youth from diverse backgrounds. Participants also learned how to promote rural areas as spaces of opportunity.
Results
Youth workers improved their knowledge of rural challenges and gained new tools to use in their everyday work. The project helped them design activities that are inclusive and community-based. It also raised their awareness of discrimination, poverty, and how to support youth with fewer opportunities.
Impact
The project strengthened international cooperation among youth organizations. It helped create a European network of trained youth workers committed to rural development and social inclusion. Through shared experiences, they gained inspiration to support young people in shaping a future in rural areas. The project’s legacy includes better youth work practices, new educational tools, and a lasting motivation for change.
