Background
Gender inequality remains a serious issue across the world. Women and girls face different problems and challenges depending on their countries and social backgrounds. The “Pathways to Equality” project was designed to give young people a better understanding of women’s rights and to help them take action in their own communities. The project also focused on the importance of equality, democracy, and youth participation in human rights topics.

Objectives

The main goals of the project were to raise awareness about gender inequality and to empower young people to support women’s rights. It also aimed to improve young people’s skills in communication and leadership, while encouraging them to become active in their societies. Another important goal was to promote intercultural learning and create lasting partnerships among youth organizations from different countries.

Implementation

The project included one main activity: a youth exchange event held in Antalya, Türkiye, in December 2023. It brought together 42 participants, including group leaders, from seven countries. Around half of the participants were young people with fewer opportunities. The program was built on non-formal education methods, including workshops, role plays, and group discussions. All activities were carefully prepared in cooperation with partner organizations.

Key Activities

During the exchange, participants explored the lives and rights of women around the world. They compared situations in their own countries and practiced empathy, especially among male participants. The sessions included energizers, intercultural nights, and team-building exercises. Creative methods like simulations and storytelling were used to make learning more active and personal. Group leaders ensured a gender balance and supported the learning process.

Results
Participants left with stronger knowledge about gender equality and women’s rights. They developed skills in leadership, teamwork, and intercultural dialogue. Many became more confident in taking action and initiating projects in their local communities. They also gained a better understanding of how social and legal systems affect women differently across the globe.

Impact
This project encouraged young people to become changemakers. The knowledge and tools they gained will help them influence others and support gender equality. Through partnerships and collaboration, the project created a strong network of youth workers committed to human rights. The effects of this project will continue as participants share their experiences and inspire others to promote inclusive values in society.
