Conflict is part of human life. It can arise in families, workplaces, friendships, and communities—anywhere people interact. While conflict is often perceived as something negative, it also carries the potential to foster growth, understanding, and deeper connection. The key lies in how we approach it.
The Roots for Peace project, co-funded by the European Union, was created to provide people and organisations with practical tools to navigate conflict in constructive and empathetic ways. Two new resources—an open-access booklet and a free online webinar—offer valuable insights and methods for anyone interested in transforming the way they experience and address conflict.
A Free Booklet on Conflict Transformation
The booklet, developed as part of the Roots for Peace training course, presents a collection of practical tools, exercises, and perspectives to support individuals and groups in approaching conflict differently. It helps readers to:
-
Understand the underlying dynamics of conflict
-
Communicate with empathy and clarity
-
Reframe challenges as opportunities for dialogue and growth
The publication was co-created by experts with diverse backgrounds: Paulina Orbitowska-Fernandez, a Certified Nonviolent Communication Trainer; Tomek Jimmy, a Somatic Educator; and Sylwia Federico, an Embodiment Coach. The design was developed by Ilaria Fresa, making the material both practical and visually engaging.
The booklet is freely accessible online through Fundacja Mudita’s website.
Free Webinar: Conflict Resolution Using NVC
Complementing the booklet, a free webinar titled “Conflict Resolution Using Nonviolent Communication (NVC)” will take place on 15 September 2025.
The session will be led by Paulina Orbitowska-Fernandez, whose professional work focuses on fostering empathy, dialogue, and collaborative relationships across different contexts, from education and NGOs to business and healthcare. As a trainer, coach, mediator, and academic teacher, she brings extensive experience in supporting individuals and organizations to build relationships grounded in trust, honesty, and partnership.
The webinar will offer participants the opportunity to:
- Explore the roots of tension and misunderstanding
- Experience how empathy-based communication can build connection
- Learn practical tools and short exercises applicable to both everyday life and group facilitation
A Collaborative European Initiative
Roots for Peace is the result of a strong international partnership between organizations committed to education, dialogue, and inclusion. Alongside Fundacja Mudita, the project is implemented with the support of PECO – Progetti Europei di Cooperazione Genova, Edu2Grow, Avatar 3000 z.s., and Innovation Education Lab.
Conclusion
Conflict is inevitable, but it does not need to be destructive. With the right tools, it can become an opportunity for dialogue, transformation, and stronger human connection. The Roots for Peace project offers concrete resources to support this shift—both through the freely available booklet and the upcoming webinar.
By investing in empathy and dialogue, we plant the seeds of peace in our communities and beyond.
