Programme: Erasmus+ | Action Type: Youth Mobility
Countries Involved: Latvia, Croatia, Romania, Turkey, Moldova
Background
The project “Stress or not to stress?” was created to highlight the importance of mental health in small communities. Many young people face daily stress, lack of support, and limited awareness of how to take care of their well-being. This project aimed to encourage healthier lifestyles and better communication between young participants and their local communities through non-formal education and creative actions.
Objectives
The main goal was to raise awareness about stress reduction and mental health among 30 young people. The project focused on teaching practical ways to manage stress, informing participants about the risks of chronic stress, and promoting outdoor activities for better balance in life. It also aimed to develop social media tools, create international cooperation networks, and promote inclusion by involving young people with fewer opportunities.
Implementation
The youth exchange took place over 9 months, including a 9-day activity hosted in Engure, Latvia. The project brought together 25 young people aged 18–30 and 5 group leaders. Each national team had six members, who worked together using non-formal education methods. Activities included ice-breaking games, teamwork tasks, open discussions, cultural evenings, and workshops. These helped participants share experiences, build friendships, and gain new perspectives on stress and cultural diversity.
Key Activities
Participants created campaigns and events to raise awareness of mental health in their communities. They developed a YouTube channel, Facebook page, and Instagram account to spread information, aiming to reach 1,500 people. Four local events promoted stress-reducing activities and informed communities about Erasmus+. Intercultural evenings gave space to present traditions, food, and dances, while workshops provided practical tools to be used later in participants’ home countries.
Results
The project improved the knowledge and skills of young participants. They learned more about stress management, communication, and intercultural teamwork. They also gained experience with non-formal learning and non-verbal communication. Their English language skills improved, and they developed confidence in presenting ideas. For partner organizations, the project increased visibility in local communities, attracted new volunteers, and created opportunities for future Erasmus+ projects.
Impact
“Stress or not to stress?” had a strong impact both locally and internationally. It supported youth inclusion, promoted tolerance, and encouraged healthier habits. Participants became more motivated, confident, and active in their communities. The partner organizations built lasting partnerships with municipalities, schools, and NGOs. The project showed how non-formal learning and international cooperation can improve young people’s well-being and inspire new projects that address important social challenges.
