Action Type: Small-Scale Partnerships in School Education
Countries Involved: Austria, France

Background

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing Europe today. Young people need to be part of the solution, and schools play an important role in preparing them to act responsibly. This project was created to show students how daily choices, especially in mobility and lifestyle, affect the environment. It also highlighted the importance of teamwork and international cooperation in finding creative solutions for a greener future.

Objectives

The project aimed to promote climate-friendly mobility among Erasmus students, encouraging them to avoid flying and choose greener travel alternatives, such as trains. It also sought to increase students’ awareness of the beauty of nature and their role in protecting it. Another important goal was to show students that they are not alone in facing these challenges, but part of a wider European team working on innovative ideas.

Implementation

The project involved close cooperation between schools in Austria and France. Austrian students traveled by train to Redon, France, where they attended lessons and worked on sustainability topics with their French peers. The program combined classroom learning with hands-on experiences, encouraging young people to think critically about environmental issues and to develop new solutions together.

Key Activities

Students explored how green mobility and sustainable lifestyles can be practiced in everyday life. They compared environmental challenges in Styria, Austria, and the coastal areas around Redon. Activities included workshops, nature explorations, and teamwork exercises. Students also began creating digital materials and presentations to share their ideas with wider audiences. The project encouraged them to step out of their comfort zones and try practical changes.

Results

Participants created a digital handout with practical advice for other students on how to reduce their ecological footprint. They also prepared visual materials to promote their work during Erasmus Days 2025 and at a local presentation evening. The collaboration allowed students to exchange creative ideas and bring them back to their own schools and communities, spreading knowledge and inspiration.

Impact
The project increased awareness of personal responsibility in protecting biodiversity and reducing climate impact. Students became more motivated to use green mobility, explore sustainable habits, and encourage their peers to do the same. By working together across borders, they learned the value of international teamwork and developed a sense of belonging to a European community dedicated to environmental protection.
