Background
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine created a new reality for Europe and especially for young people. Youth workers and young activists faced rising fear, tension, and prejudice in their communities. This project was created to respond to these challenges and to support peaceful dialogue in times of conflict.
Objectives
The project aimed to reduce militarisation, social tension, and discrimination among young people. It focused on strengthening skills for dialogue, conflict understanding, and non-violent action. Another key goal was to help youth workers support acceptance, empathy, and democratic values in their local communities.
Implementation
The project was implemented through long-term educational processes lasting 18 months each. Young activists and youth workers participated in training sessions, mentoring, and peer learning activities. Partners from different European countries worked closely together to ensure strong cooperation and shared learning.
Key Activities
Participants joined residential trainings focused on peace education, conflict analysis, and storytelling. The project also included national dissemination activities in all partner countries. An online platform collected stories of peace actions, and a final international event in Berlin brought together around 150 practitioners.
Results
As a result, a strong European network of youth workers and young activists was created. Participants gained practical skills in dialogue, mediation, and non-violent social action. The project also produced inspiring stories and tools that can be used in youth work across Europe.
Impact
The project helped young people feel more confident in responding to conflict and social tension. It supported a culture of peace, understanding, and cooperation beyond borders. By empowering youth workers, the project contributed to a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future for European communities.
