What Was the “Brand Yourself” Project?
The “Brand Yourself” project was an Erasmus+ youth mobility initiative that took place from March to December 2021. It involved young people from 6 different countries and focused on entrepreneurship, creativity, and career development. The project aimed to give young Europeans new tools to face unemployment by encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset and teaching how to turn ideas into real businesses. It was hosted in Vila Real, Portugal.
Main Goals of the Project
The key goal of “Brand Yourself” was to inspire young people to become more active in their careers and communities. The project showed participants how tourism and creative thinking could be used as solutions to youth unemployment. It encouraged the development of personal, social, and leadership skills, while promoting cultural exchange and teamwork.
Another objective was to help participants understand how to brand themselves and their ideas. This included learning how to create a business plan, present a product, and use marketing tools. The project also aimed to show the value of non-formal education and how it can support career success.
Inclusion of Youth with Fewer Opportunities
A special focus was given to young people with fewer opportunities. Each team of six participants included four people from disadvantaged backgrounds. These young people often face challenges due to social or economic reasons, disabilities, or fewer chances to travel and learn internationally.
The organizers used non-formal education methods—like games, discussions, and creative workshops—to ensure everyone could take part fully. These activities helped participants gain confidence and important life skills. Support from group leaders and team members made the experience inclusive and valuable for all.
What Happened During the Project?
Participants took part in a youth exchange where they worked on ideas, presented them, and learned by doing. The activities included brainstorming, group presentations, debates, and hands-on learning. Everyone had a chance to share their stories, experiences, and business ideas.
They also developed communication and teamwork skills, learned how to be more independent, and improved their self-esteem. The atmosphere was positive, and young people were encouraged to step outside their comfort zone.
The Impact and Results
The impact of the project was felt on many levels—personal, local, national, and even international. Participants became “multipliers,” spreading what they had learned in their own communities. Many shared their new skills and ideas through activities organized with their home organizations. They also promoted Erasmus+ to other young people.
Organizations involved in the project gained experience and visibility. They built stronger partnerships, planned future projects, and developed their capacity to support youth mobility. “Brand Yourself” helped 4You, the host organization, grow locally and internationally.
The materials created during the project were shared with schools, youth spaces, and institutions in Vila Real and Murça. A dissemination campaign on social media and by email helped spread the message even further. As a result, the project reached a wide audience and encouraged more young people to get involved in similar experiences.
Looking to the Future
“Brand Yourself” was not just a one-time event. The organizers and partners hope to continue the work with new projects and deeper partnerships. The project showed that with the right support, every young person can build a better future—by learning, creating, and believing in their potential.
