Empowering Youth and Teachers for a Sustainable Food Future

The urgent need for a sustainable and equitable food system is a pressing global concern. Addressing this challenge, an innovative project has emerged with a mission to empower secondary school students and teachers, enabling them to become active contributors to the Green Transition. This ambitious initiative focuses on cultivating critical thinkers, future change-makers, and conscious food consumers.

Transforming Food Systems Through Education

Central to the project is the goal of equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to drive systemic change in food systems. By fostering critical thinking and systemic understanding, students are prepared to challenge conventional practices and adopt more sustainable personal consumption habits. The initiative emphasizes Futures Literacy, a vital competence that enables individuals to anticipate and influence future trends effectively.

Teachers as Catalysts for Change

Recognizing the pivotal role of educators, the project aims to provide teachers with cutting-edge tools and resources to deliver Food Literacy education effectively. Key outcomes include the creation of a database of good practices, an anthology of case studies, and a comprehensive analysis of integrating Food and Futures Literacy into school curricula. These resources empower teachers to guide students in understanding the interconnectedness of food systems and sustainability.

Innovative Learning Methods

The project, cofunded by Erasmus+ and led by TalTech University of Tallin, takes a “whole school approach,” combining formal classroom instruction with non-formal educational methods. Students will engage with creative tools like board games and participatory learning techniques, making the educational process interactive and impactful. By introducing Futures Literacy and Systems Thinking in secondary education, the initiative aims to inspire young learners to lead the change for a greener future.

A Vision for the Future

At its core, the project envisions a generation equipped to address the challenges of modern food systems. By building a foundation of knowledge and inspiring collective action, it not only prepares students to adapt to future challenges but also empowers them to shape a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food landscape.
