Status: Completed
Duration: April 2025 – January 2026
EU Grant: €29,461
Programme: Erasmus+
Action Type: Mobility of Young People
Countries Involved: Hungary, Greece, Estonia, Portugal
Project Background
The Follow, Share, Care project was created by young people who wanted to better understand how social media affects their daily lives. While digital platforms offer many opportunities, participants realised that constant online activity can also influence attention, mood, and well-being.
The project encouraged young people to reflect on their digital habits while exploring how social media can also become a positive tool for sustainability, inclusion, and responsible communication.
Project Objectives
The main objective was to help participants become more aware of their everyday use of social media and develop healthier digital habits. The project encouraged them to disconnect from constant online activity and reflect on how technology influences their lives.
Another important goal was to promote responsible content creation. Participants learned how to use social media to share positive messages, support sustainability, and encourage more conscious choices in their communities.
Participants and International Cooperation
The youth exchange brought together 28 participants and one facilitator from Hungary, Greece, Estonia, and Portugal. Most participants were between 18 and 25 years old, and more than half came from disadvantaged backgrounds or had fewer opportunities.
The international group created an inclusive learning environment where participants exchanged ideas, shared experiences, and learned from different cultures while supporting one another throughout the project.
Project Implementation
The exchange took place over nine days in Mezőberény, Hungary. The programme combined non-formal education with interactive workshops, team-building activities, group discussions, and creative learning methods.
Participants explored topics such as digital well-being, sustainable lifestyles, and responsible online communication. Daily reflection sessions allowed everyone to evaluate their learning experience and contribute to the programme.
Learning Through Experience
One of the most important activities was a 24-hour digital detox, during which participants completely disconnected from their phones and social media. Instead, they took part in outdoor activities, discussions, and group exercises that encouraged face-to-face communication.
The project also included workshops on screen time, mindful technology use, sustainability, and content creation. Participants designed videos and awareness materials that promoted positive online behaviour and environmental responsibility.
Project Results
The project helped participants better understand how social media affects their emotions, attention, and daily routines. Many realised they were using their phones automatically and decided to make simple changes, such as reducing screen time and being more selective about the content they consume.
Participants also learned to connect digital habits with sustainable living. By creating campaigns and educational materials, they experienced how social media can be used to inspire positive action rather than passive scrolling.
Impact on Participants and Communities
The exchange encouraged young people to become active creators instead of passive consumers of online content. They improved their communication, teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking while gaining practical experience in responsible digital communication.
After returning home, participants continued sharing their experiences through local activities and online campaigns. Several also expressed interest in taking part in future Erasmus+ projects and becoming more active in youth initiatives.
Long-Term Impact
Follow, Share, Care showed that healthy digital habits begin with small everyday decisions. Through international cooperation, non-formal learning, and practical experiences, the project helped young people build a more balanced relationship with technology.
The skills, friendships, and ideas developed during the exchange continue to inspire participants to promote digital well-being, sustainability, and active citizenship in their local communities.
