EU Grant: €38,832
Programme: Erasmus+
Action Type: Mobility of Youth Workers
Countries Involved: France, Armenia, Georgia, Spain, Ukraine, Ireland, Greece, Lithuania, Italy
Project Background
The Mind Your Emotions project was created to respond to challenges faced by many young people, including social exclusion, discrimination, conflicts, and difficulties in managing emotions. Youth workers working with vulnerable groups often meet young people experiencing stress, rejection, and a lack of confidence.
The project identified emotional management and communication as important skills for creating more inclusive communities. By developing these competences among youth workers, the project aimed to support young people, especially those from minority groups and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Project Objectives
The main objective of Mind Your Emotions was to provide youth workers with practical tools for managing emotions, preventing conflicts, and supporting young people’s personal development.
The project focused on improving empathy, active listening, communication skills, and resilience. It also aimed to help participants use creative methods, especially theatre and artistic expression, as tools for working with young people and promoting inclusion.
Participants and Inclusion
The training involved 24 youth workers from France, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Greece, Armenia, Georgia, Lithuania, and Ukraine. Participants worked with different groups of young people, including minorities, unemployed youth, and people at risk of social exclusion.
The project created an inclusive learning environment where participants could share professional experiences, discuss challenges, and learn from different cultural perspectives. Special attention was given to encouraging the voices of minorities and promoting respect for diversity.
Project Implementation
The main training activity took place in Sable d’Or, France, and was based on non-formal education methods. Participants explored emotional awareness, conflict management, resilience, and youth empowerment through creative and interactive activities.
The programme combined theatre exercises, body movement, music, breathing techniques, meditation, group discussions, and reflection activities. These methods helped participants better understand emotions and develop practical approaches for their work with young people.
Creative Learning Methods
A key element of the project was the use of artistic practices as a way to explore emotions and social situations. Through theatre and role-playing, participants recreated real-life professional challenges and learned how to manage conflicts in a safe environment.
Activities such as singing, improvisation, and body expression helped participants increase self-confidence, reduce stress, and improve communication. These creative methods showed how arts can support emotional well-being and stronger connections between people.
Key Results and Achievements
The project helped participants develop new skills in emotional regulation, communication, conflict prevention, and group management. Youth workers gained practical tools that they can use in their daily work with young people facing difficult situations.
Participants also improved their ability to recognise emotions, listen actively, support others, and create more inclusive spaces. They strengthened their understanding of different minority groups and learned new approaches to promote respect and tolerance.
Impact on Youth Work and Communities
The knowledge gained during the project allowed participants to introduce new methods in their organisations and communities. Youth workers returned with ideas for workshops and activities focused on emotional well-being, resilience, and empowerment.
The project also strengthened cooperation between European youth organisations. Participants created new professional connections and shared good practices for supporting young people through inclusive and creative approaches.
Long-Term Impact and Conclusion
Mind Your Emotions demonstrated how emotional awareness and creativity can become powerful tools in youth work. By supporting youth workers, the project contributed to creating safer environments where young people can express themselves, develop confidence, and build stronger social connections.
Through international cooperation, artistic learning, and shared experiences, the project supported the development of more empathetic, inclusive, and resilient youth communities across Europe.
