Background
Environmental challenges and climate change are important issues for young people in Europe. However, many young people do not always know how they can contribute to environmental protection in their daily lives. The project Green Compass for Europe was created to encourage youth participation in climate actions and sustainability initiatives. It aimed to give young people a stronger voice and motivate them to become active in protecting the environment. The project also focused on creating useful materials that youth organisations across Europe could use to educate young people about sustainable living.
Objectives
The project aimed to raise awareness about environmental challenges and climate change among young people. Another goal was to help youth understand how daily actions can contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. The partners also wanted to collect and share good environmental practices from different countries. A key objective was to empower young people to take initiative, participate in green activities, and inspire others to adopt environmentally friendly behaviours.
Implementation
The project included several international and local activities. At the beginning, partners organised a transnational meeting to plan the project and define responsibilities. Youth organisations then collected good practices related to environmental protection and green innovation in their countries. A youth meeting in Greece allowed participants to learn about sustainable living and discuss climate issues. During the project, partners also organised online meetings, local awareness events, and activities during World Environmental Week.
Key Activities
One of the most important results of the project was the development of the Green Compass Tool, a digital resource that includes eco-friendly places, businesses, and practical green challenges. The project team also created three digital maps that show sustainable locations in participating cities. These tools encourage young people to adopt environmentally friendly habits and discover sustainable options in their communities. In addition, partners organised dissemination activities to share the results with local organisations and young people.
Results and Impact
The project successfully increased awareness of environmental protection among young people and local communities. Participants gained new knowledge about sustainability and climate action. The Green Compass Tool and the digital city maps continue to help young people make more environmentally conscious choices in their daily lives. The project also collected innovative practices from different countries, helping youth organisations develop more effective environmental initiatives in the future. Overall, the project strengthened youth engagement in climate action and encouraged a more responsible approach to protecting the planet.
