Background

The project “European Journey – Film Festival” was created to help students explore European culture, traditions, and natural heritage through creative activities. Schools noticed that students needed more opportunities to develop intercultural understanding, digital skills, and language competences. The project aimed to respond to these needs by using filmmaking as an engaging educational tool. Through international cooperation, students could learn about other cultures while developing important personal and academic skills.

Objectives

The main objective of the project was to strengthen cooperation between partner schools and improve the quality of education. The project also aimed to develop key competences among students, including digital skills, language abilities, creativity, and intercultural awareness. Another important goal was to promote common European values such as inclusion, tolerance, equal opportunities, and respect for diversity.

Implementation

The project involved four primary schools from Poland, Italy, Romania, and Bulgaria. Students aged 12–15 participated in various activities that combined learning with creativity. The main method used in the project was filmmaking. Students researched topics related to their local culture, natural environment, and national literature, and then used this information to create short films. Teachers and students also collaborated through the eTwinning platform, where they shared ideas, prepared presentations, and communicated regularly

Key Activities

Participants worked in teams to develop film scripts, create multimedia presentations, and produce short films about their regions. International meetings allowed students and teachers to travel to partner countries and learn directly about their cultures and traditions. During these exchanges, students improved their language and communication skills while experiencing new cultures. Local cultural events were also organised, including presentations, traditional food, music, and dances from each country.

Results

The project involved more than 100 students in online collaboration and at least 60 students in international mobility activities. Teachers also benefited by learning new teaching methods and gaining experience in international cooperation. Students improved their ICT skills, creativity, teamwork, and confidence through the filmmaking process. The activities helped them better understand cultural diversity and develop stronger communication skills.

Impact

The project had a lasting impact on participating schools and communities. Schools gained a stronger international profile and expanded their experience with innovative teaching methods. Teachers developed new educational approaches and increased their use of digital tools in the classroom. Students gained valuable intercultural experiences, improved their language abilities, and built friendships with peers from other countries. Overall, the project strengthened cooperation between schools and promoted a more open and inclusive European learning environment.
